Two new RF lenses announced

Just this week, Canon announced two new RF lenses, a 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM and a 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM. The wide angle zoom surprised me because they already have 2 wide angle zoom lenses for the RF system, however, they are L series while this lens appears to be aimed towards budget minded photographers. Paired with the new R7 or R10, the field of view is an excellent 24-48mm making it a no brainer choice for the new APS-C bodies especially given it's price of $549.

The 24mm is more, $599, and not really on my radar. Had it came out before the RF 35mm, I likely would have purchased it for landscapes and night sky, and probably urban photography. Macro capability and IS are great features, and the field of view of 38mm on APS-C bodies makes it a great every day lens, perhaps even a great street/urban photography lens. That said, it may end up in my bag one of these days.

The 15-30mm will likely be an early fall purchase. I would like to see how the image quality stacks up to my EF 16-35 f4 lens before doing so, but, eventually, I want to replace all of my EF lenses. I’m in no real hurry as they all work great and produce fantastic images paired with my R5, but it would be nice to be free of the EF adapter.
