Sandhill Cranes
On the same day as my Wildflower Trail visit, I made my way over to Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama. While I have never claimed to be a bird photographer, I do enjoy the challenging nature of photographing birds, or wildlife in general. The camera gear can be expensive, birds are fast and easy to miss, which means it requires tons of patience. And I end up taking 1000 photos in what seems like 10 minutes, and then if I am lucky, I get 2-3 keepers.
Anyway, during the Covid lockdown, I spent some days in my backyard photographing birds. Not very well mind you, but I was learning. And whenever I visited downtown with my friend Tom, I always took my RF 100-400mm lens to hone the birding skills.
All of the practice paid off when I photographed the Sandhill Cranes at Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. After about 1500 shutter clicks, I walked away with a handful I liked, and 2-3 I loved. Here they are.
