Sunrise and Sunset

This month’s theme for the local photography club’s monthly competition is sunrise/sunset. Sounds pretty easy, right? Honestly, I’ve been dreading this theme since it was announced because I have very few photos of them. In my eyes, it’s difficult to capture correctly.

After a deep dive into my library of photos, edited and unedited, I managed to find close to 50 photos. Some I don’t remember taking, and some I never edited for some reason or another. I whittled those 50 down to about 25 and then enlisted my friend Seth’s help in selecting my photos. He went through them all, and provided lots of great constructive feedback. Often with a yes or no, or a wow. Then I got to work on what I thought were the best of the best. I re-edited each of the photos, and went back to Seth for more feedback. Near the end of this process, we got down to about 6 photos. Which I made the call on the final selections. When the dust settled, I have two digital color photos, one digital black/white, and then one color print. The deadline is Monday evening for submission, and then the competition meeting is the following Monday, the 24th. Here are my selections.

Digital Color - Porth Nanven, Cornwall, England May 2014

Digital Color - Guntersville Lake, Alabama November 2022

Digital Mono - Bandon, Oregon May 2018

Color Print - Whitby Abbey ruins, Whitby England September 2018
