St. Andrews, Scotland

Over the past few weeks I have been plugging away at the well over 5000 photos I took in my 2.5 week vacation in the UK. As of today, I have finished maybe 3/4, with only my workshop photos from the Lake District left to process. I hope to be able to get them all finished this coming week.

The amount of photos is a change from many of my trips in the past. In Patagonia and Iceland, I hardly took 1000 photos. I had fallen into the trap of only getting my camera out of the bag when my tripod was involved and an epic scene was in front of me. That limiting action was not good for my photography when I was back home. It caused slumps, or periods of time when the camera never made it out of the bag because it wasn't epic. To combat that, I have expanded what I like to photograph to birds and other animals, urban, and even starting to dabble in macro photography. There are lots of photos I consider to be "vacation" photos, great scenery, maybe not in the best of light, but always seems to capture a feeling.

That feeling will be present in this set of photos from my time in St. Andrews, Scotland. My friend Paul and his girlfriend Jenny hosted my stay, which gave me a great home base to explore from. At the beginning of my trip, I spent a day in St. Andrews, and then at the end of the trip, I spent 2.5 days there. I then took the train from there back to Edinburgh to begin my journey home. The entire set of photos will be uploaded to my Flickr account soon, for now, here are 22 of my favorite photos from those few days in St. Andrews!
