A night at the ballpark
A few weeks back I bought a single day game ticket to see my local baseball team, the double AA affiliate of the California Angels, the Rocket City Trash Pandas. I had taken a few days off for my birthday and wanted to go to a day game, start time was 11:05am. On the morning of the game, camera gear all packed in my clear bag, I got an email from FedEx saying my new Canon RF 100mm macro lens was to be delivered during that time, and I needed to be there to sign. I was tempted to go to the game, but decided the hassle of trying to sign for my package on another day was going to be too much. So, I ate the ticket, only $17, and stayed home.
I should have gone to the game. The FedEx truck didn’t show up at my house until after 5pm, and even then the driver could not find my package on the truck. Seriously??? Anyway, I was finally able to track down the package the following day and sign for it at a pickup location. I wasted the day and a perfect opportunity for a day game, which is a rare treat.
I checked the schedule and found a night game on a Tuesday night that worked best for me and my friend Tom. We met at the park and had a great time. A bratwurst and a beer each, along with some great weather made for a great night. Of course I brought along my camera gear, my Canon R7, a 14-35, and the trusty RF 100-400. The 14-35 should have stayed at home. I took close to 2700 photos over the course of the night, the 14-35 was on the end of my camera for about 5 of them. Great lens, it was just too wide. The RF 100-400 performed flawlessly once again. The R7 is a step down from the R5 in image quality and how it handles noisy images, but it was taken since it was an APS-C camera and the added reach was definitely nice to have. Of those 2700 photos, I really liked about 45 or so and uploaded them all to my Flickr page, here. Here are a few of my favorites!
