July theme results

In the 7 monthly competitions for the local photographic society, I have two 1st place finishes and a handful of honorable mentions. Honestly, not a bad start this challenge I placed on myself. One of the months I missed the deadline, sadly, because I had several strong entries picked out for that theme of "In the Woods". And in the months I did not win, I tamped down any expectations, and tried not to let that bring me down. It’s been a fun challenge, but I really need to up my game with my selections. I cannot hold any pictures back for a better theme.

Each month, I have leaned on one or two friends to evaluate and critique photos I had selected for that month's competition. There have been a few times where I went with my heart, and overruled suggestions from friends, who honestly knows if that made any difference at all. July's theme was "Open" which meant no theme at all. I was excited because I planned to submit a wide range of photos to include landscape, sports, concert, and one that I would classify as urban decay, maybe even rural decay. I worked for several weeks trimming down the entries, re-editing, trying several different crops and then asked for critique. In the end, I did not place one photo in the competition. Sure, a bit disappointing, but I am on to next month's theme of Boats and Ships, and then after that, Out of Place. I'm working diligently on those themes now because August and September will be packed with work and personal travel. Anyway, enough rambling on, here are my entries I submitted for July.
