Guntersville Sunset

Years ago, I happened across a spot I really wanted to photograph. I dropped a pin on Google Maps and never really made the effort to photograph there. Over the years, I have done this so many times. Every time I would give it some thought, I’d tell myself the drive was too far (about 75 minutes away).

Last year, on a day out checking out some waterfalls in North East Alabama, I stopped at the location. It was a gloomy grey winter day and all I had with me was a Fuji X100v camera. I snapped off a few pics and came away with one I sort of liked. But I wasn’t entirely happy with the photo. I wanted more!

I revisited that picture many times since then, but it wasn’t until recently that I checked out the location on TPE (The Photographer’s Ephemeris). I needed another photo for my 2023 friends and family calendar. It was absolutely a sunset spot, and the sun was setting just behind the island. I planned on a Veterans Day out, made the drive to Guntersville, and was rewarded with an almost perfect scene. I tried a few different compositions, but ended up liking the low to the ground shot better. This is a 5 shot bracketed photo shot at f16 to get the sun star. In the end, I only used 2 of the images from bracketed sequence for my Photoshop blend. This is the final edited image!
