Canon R5 and IBIS

I have had my Canon R5 for a few months now, and I’ve spent 99% of my time with it photographing handheld. I was aware of the inclusion of IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) in the camera, but I did not fully understand how it worked with lenses with IS or even EF lenses. The photoshoot I had this weekend at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center made me think about IBIS quite a bit because a few of my photos weren’t as sharp as I had liked. Before the R5, whenever my camera went on the tripod, I turned off IS on the lens. That way it would not try to stabilize the lens at shutter press, and interfere with the solidly mounted camera and potentially cause a blurry photo. What I discovered is by turning off the IS on the lens, the IBIS was also turned off. And, if the lens did not come with IS, like my EF 24-70mm f2.8, IBIS must be turned off via a line item in the menu. When a lens with IS is connected to the camera, there is no line item in the menu for IBIS, it is removed. Now I have to remember to turn off IBIS when using a non IS lens!
