What’s been going on

Since my return from Kauai, I've been swamped with house/work/life stuff and haven't been able to post anything in what seems like ages. However, a quick peek shows it's only been a little over 2 weeks. Despite that, I have been active with the hobby.

New gear is on the way! I decided to move on from my EF lenses and go all in with the RF line. The 100-400 was seldom used, and my 70-200 was 10 years old. The 16-35 sold quickly, but the 100-400 had a light abrasion on the glass from the previous owner and I had to field a ton of questions about it. I had 4-5 potential buyers, but many were spooked about the abrasion. I made RAW files available for examination. Once I did that, it sold quickly. The 24-70 and the 70-200 are still for sale.

That being said, I am now the proud owner of a RF 70-200 f4 lens and a RF 14-35 f4 lens. To round out the arsenal, I am currently looking for a used 24-105 f4. As far as the rest of the kit is concerned, the RF 35mm has solidified a place on the roster. However, the 16mm might have to go because I wasn't terribly impressed with its sharpness. Another prime, perhaps the RF 24mm might take its place. And could be another fun lens for street and travel photography, and astrophotography should I ever need to do that.

And one last thing. Over the past 10 years, I have printed many of my photos. I've used one online print shop pretty much exclusively, but I think it may be time for a change. The last few orders have been subpar in so many ways. On my calibrated monitor, and 2 other monitors, I viewed several photographs I was planning to use for my yearly friends and family calendars. Everything looked great. However, upon receiving the calendars, the colors were overly saturated, the skies in several of the pictures was neon blue. Thankfully, it was my test batch of only 2 calendars. I re-edited the photos, pulling the saturation back on the skies and resubmitted. That order was for the entire amount of calendars, about 15, and I was still not satisfied with the sky color.

Then, just recently I started adding a border to my photos. Not a tiny sliver of a border, but a substantial border. Submitted a print order, immediately disgusted. The borders were not the same size, appearing to be cut wrong. I contacted the printer with my concerns and was told they would, as a one-time courtesy re-print. The new prints suffered the same miscut. Time to move on...
