My 2023 plans and goals

Each year I jot down a few photography goals, and most if not all are easy no-brainer goals I can accomplish without much effort. Mostly it's goals like, photo once a month, make a calendar, etc. This year, I want to challenge myself, and attempt a few things I wouldn't normally do, or never follow through with when I say I will.

My last entry was about actually entering a monthly theme assignment on a photography website. I entered twice last year, finished 3rd once, and then finished 1st last month. I've also had a few weekly theme assignment entries as well, placing 2nd once, but never higher. For 2023, I want to submit a photo for each monthly assignment and at least 1 weekly assignment per month. I believe this puts me in a really good position for growth.

Another goal is to finally join the local photography club. As in join, I mean finally start showing up and meeting like minded people. And entering their monthly contests too. I joined the club a few months back, paid my dues, read a few of the newsletters, but haven't actively participated. That changes next month.

In addition to those lofty goals, the same old goals I have every year are still in place. I will make a 2024 friends and family calendar, and I will get out and photograph several times a month. I have a list of several local places I have photographed before, I would like to revisit and improve on those photos. The old EF 100-400 lens needs to be used for something, so I bought a fancy monopod and plan to get into a bit of birding. And I plan to buckle down and finally learn Luminosity Masks and spend more time in Photoshop.

As far as travel, I have trips to Kauai, Colorado, a photography workshop in Scotland, and likely a Texas desert road trip planned for the year. 2022 was a fantastic year for me in my professional, personal, and photography lives. I plan to keep that going into 2023 and on.
