Festival of the Cranes

Every year, Sandhill Cranes migrate south and end up at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama. I grew up around the refuge as it spans a good portion of Madison and Morgan Counties. But up until a year or so ago, I never gave much thought to bird photography. A visit to the refuge’s visit center last year and several subsequent birding sessions caused me to catch the birding bug, and I haven’t let up since.

During the local photography club’s November competition meeting, the judge mentioned that the Alabama Center for the Arts were taking submissions for the exhibit. I did some research and sent an email asking for more information. The POC was out of the office that week for Thanksgiving, so when she contacted me, I had less than 24 hours to submit 3 entries. I pulled that off and within a day my entries had been selected. Off they went to the printer, frames were secured, and all mounting hardware was rounded up. I dropped off the images today and I am pretty pleased with how they turned out! The exhibit is January 10th to the 12th. Here they are.
