Canon RF 100-400 is impressive

A while back, I sold off all of my EF lenses so I could move on to the RF mount. I had not intended to replace the 100-400 because I hardly if ever used it. Sure, it was incredibly sharp, but it was far too heavy. Anything handheld wasn’t comfortable, and it really was taxing on my back. I sold it, or so I thought. The lens has a minor abrasion on it, doesn’t affect image quality at all, but it was returned. Since I was out $60 shipping one way, and another $60 for the return trip, I decided to keep it in hopes I would actually use it since I had begun photographing birds. But then that changed.

After purchasing the low buck Canon RF 100-400 on a whim (bored), and testing it out, I highly doubt the old EF lens will ever see the light of day again. The RF lens is light, feels great while on the camera, and I found it to be incredibly sharp. Far more than I expected. Sure it doesn’t have the same build quality of the EF L-series lens, but for $499, it was a steal!

Attached to my R5, here are 4 shots from a downtown Huntsville, Alabama photo walk with a friend and his always ready to go for a walk dog, Bentley.
